Try uninstall/installing alsamixer, maybe it isn't installed correctly?
sudo apt-get install Alsamixer
You might find it easier to do a format, re-install of Lubuntu...
And you tried the
sudo su cd /usr/share/alsa cp -p alsa.conf alsa.conf.dist sed -i 's/card 0/card 1/g' alsa.conf

Can you get it to work with the live CD...
Did you try:
alsamixer
You can manually adjust all levels. Also, if you have HDMI than you have two sound cards. Lubuntu or any OS for that matter should send sound to only one or the other...
Glad I could help. For me doing my last command to run the install and then manually adding volume control to the panel gave me the volume control!
First sorry no one got back to you sooner...I know how it feels.
Anyways, I'm not sure what you searched for but I found this thread helpful:...
Just for my benifet, what is "dban'd"?
Thank you, that gives me the ability to edit/move/etc files without needing sudo. It doesn't setup all of the permissions the way I'd like but it does what I need. And what I mean is it setups up the...
Just the disk utility in Ubuntu
If you're using the new Unity just search for disk utility.
A guide for Ubuntu 10.04 but same instructions:...
Have you tried booting in the Ubuntu live thingy (technical term) and formatted the drive (not partition) to be a MBR with the disc utility? Or if not, what type is it?
Also, you said 640...
I use stright Ubuntu for a file server, but use Xubuntu for my desktop for this reason. I had the hardest time just making simple shares. One trick which I didn't like, but did work for me was...
Hey, so this is the problem I'm having with an open (Public) share:
I copy a file and the owner is set to nobody. From another computer I have no issues editing, deleting, opening, etc... on that...
Figured it out, simple mistake. I have files that aren't accessable by me because they were put there from another computer with a samba share and given to "nobody" and I deleted them using sudo...
I have about a TB of space being "used" but can't find it.
I've looked at:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ubuntu-linux/136962-missing-space.html...
Yeah, I've actually been looking at ways to run apps from Ubuntu but there isn't a good way other than through virtualization methods. virtualization usually isn't a great rout though. I'm waiting...
I think they gave up on us.
I'm using Banshee 2.0.0 and I'm still having the same problem even when right clicking on audio book and selecting my audio book folder...what gives?
GNUMP3d seems to be a great option, at least for files & music. Works for videos but no bitrate on the fly control.
Does anyone know a way to get windows 7 to be able to read EXT4 drives from the browser without a program, as in just a driver. I looked at:
http://www.acc.umu.se/~bosse/
I haven't been finding a...
Haven't had the Kernel error after several updates, but do see lockups, mostly when playing videos (usually multiple), but no obvious root cause as I've tried different hardware, well except my CPU...
I actually think it might be my Harddrive now, but I didn't have these issues before updating so I wounder if 11.04's newer kernel is just a little more touchy with hardware? IDK, but hopefully I'll...
New update, I found playing Portal & CounterStrike for a while (finally got them working as well) had no issues and I turned the video settings to the max so I think that should count as a GPU test....
Poop on a stick crashed while I was out again, like the previous crashes almost identical with only a few subtle differences but still in the kernel.
How do I stress test my GPU? ...but I...
I thought about it last night but agree with you on waiting for more crashes. Didn't crash last night and hoping it is still good when I come home to it today. :)
I stopped it, after a few hours but checked and it said 0 errors and had completed 3 passes while about 70% though the 4th.
