  1. Re: Why don't GNOME/KDE/others use a seperate icon filetype?

But it makes things look blurry, especially at small sizes. See for example http://www.firewheeldesign.com/sparkplug/2006/April/icon_design_bitmap_vs_vector.php
  2. Re: Is this a joke? Canonical, please stop supporting Dapper NOW!

I only checked the first few, but they all are in universe or multiverse. The Ubuntu web page is clear about that:

So I do not really understand your point. Is it that Canonical is not doing...

Re: End of road for Rhythmbox

I would, but there's at least one bug about bad performance already and it makes no sense to have duplicates.

Good to hear about better performance with newer mono, gives me more to look forward...

  6. Poll: Re: Compliance and compatibility

I agree that the mockup looked cool, but I think it's a change for the better. By the time notifications fade out, you really shouldn't need to look at them any more, and the human perception system...
  7. Poll: Re: What on earth were the "Desktop Experience" team thinking?

That was only a mockup, the full design can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD .

    The relevant part is this:

From your description it sounds as if it works as designed.
  8. Poll: Re: POLL: Do you want to have CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE disabled in Jaunty?

You learn how to kill a misbehaving process and kill just that one instead of everything you have running. And if you don't know how to do that yet, reset and find out.

    This thread makes me think...
  9. Poll: Re: POLL: Do you want to have CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE disabled in Jaunty?

    A common mnemonic for sysrequests.

See for example http://mirzmaster.wordpress.com/2006/12/12/raising-skinny-elephants-is-utterly-boring/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key

Re: Do you use two desktops?

    Currently have 5.

Just counted, I have 47 windows open right now. Without workspaces I'd go insane.
  11. Poll: Re: POLL: Do you want to have CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE disabled in Jaunty?

Well, I've pressed the key combo by accident while working quickly, and it sucked horribly. I've also used this combo intentionally more that a few times. My opinion: good riddance. It's just too...

Re: I found this unfair Gnome/KDE comparison

They ship it like that because that's the default nautilus uses.

As to how it's useful, it certainly doesn't sound that way. Users who figure out how it's meant to be used often start to like it...
  13. Re: Why Banshee should be default in 2 screenshots...

Um no, Rhythmbox os not the GNOME default. There is no default GNOME music player, only a media player (Totem). See the release suites under http://live.gnome.org/TwoPointTwentyfive .

    Re Banshee,...

    [gnome] Re: Custom Places Menu

You could try adding new applications to the menu, then use the filename as a parameter.

For example, to add an entry for an odt file called "test.odt" in your home, you add a new menu entry and...

Re: Metacity with Composite is amazing

No, I'm using the open-source ATI drivers. Good to know it's fixed for some people, though.

It doesn't seem as bad as it used to be, but I have to try it on my laptop which has less vram.

It also does drop shadows. ^^

Yeah, it's pretty cool, I use it (rebuilt to remove an ubuntu patch) on both my desktop and my laptop. It has some issues though:

    Re: Amarok 2.0.0 Out!

I played with the rc for a bit. The interface was quite nice, and I wasn't too convinced of the 1.x series. Resource usage was fantastic, lowest of any full-featured media player I tried.

    I really...

    Re: One bar, or two?

You probably don't have Super mapped to the win keys. Go System -> Preferences -> Keyboard -> Layouts -> Other Options -> Alt/Win Key Behavior -> Super is mapped to the Win keys.
  21. [ubuntu] Re: Intrepid. gnome-session not restores the previous session

Honestly, please don't do that. I'm really pissed off about the stupid decision to include the new gnome-session when it obviously isn't ready, but doing that would be absolutely counter-productive....

    Re: Eclipse freezes

Do you really need 3.2? I had problems with that version, 3.3 worked much better, and even 3.4 seems stable enough to be used by now - I started running it a few weeks ago with no problems so far.
