Hi all,
This is something that has, to me at least, become more troublesome as the years have moved on. It was always a PITA to get MySQL installed, but over the last few years it feels like it's...
Fair enough. Thank you. I think I'll go with a complete re-install to be honest. I can back up the whole image to my NAS drive to retrieve things I might need. It's probably time in any case :p
Hi all,
I have a 1TB drive in my old laptop. I have Windows10 installed (as I figured I would need it for my Helix (Windows software only)) and Ubuntu Studio. I split the drive 50/50.
It turns...
Hi all,
I'm currently in my 8th hour of continuously trying to configure Postfix/Dovecot etc... to be able to send and receive mail.
I can send mail now, although the sent mail never goes to...
Hi all,
I have an Ubuntu 14.04 LTS install on my server.
Until recently, everything was working fine. Suddenly, I couldn't install anything through apt-get, so I googled around a bit and one...
Will do. Cheers.
I did, and it was fine.
I'm more concerned with the message about the "no space on device" - I seem to remember getting a similar message with the Mint install.
It doesn't get that far sadly.
It starts the Xubuntu screen, then goes black. If I press F1-6, I can see the terminal and a message flashing past saying "No space left on device" - which is odd.
Yeah. I thought the same.
Sadly....The Xubuntu installer crashes like the Mint one. I don't think I am going to be able to actually have a computer that actually does anything useful.
Well,...
You assume correctly :p I don't much care for Apple OS either.
I have Xubuntu coming down as we speak. Looking at the screenshots, it looks a lot like something I could get on with.
Thanks guys.
Hi all,
Since Ubuntu went with that awful Unity interface I have been unable to use it, so stuck with 10.10 for a very long time.
Now I need certain libraries etc... that I can no longer get.

Hi chaps,
thanks for the replies, truly appreciated. I've tried so many variations that I think I tried the double quote way...but my memory is poor so it's quite likely that I haven't!
I...
Hi all,
I have a shell script that I'm trying to run and a passing a parameter to:
I call it be:
./switch.sh 3
Ok, not very secure I don't think, but I got it.
I added www-data to the sudoers file, then in my shell script executed this:
sudo -u dave echo -e '\xff\x03\x00' > /dev/ttyUSB0
...so...
Hi, thanks for you help again.
I've tried g+r as well, but no joy.
I checked the php.ini file for anything obvious in there, I removed 'pcntl_exec' from the disabled line, and restarted apache,...
Hi, thanks for your time, it's really appreciated.
I'm getting closer....
I did as you said, and now I can run the command and NOT get the permission denied error....it simply does nothing.
...
I think you've hit the nail on the head. I did what you said with the www-data user and this is the result:
sh: 1: cannot create /dev/ttyUSB0: Permission denied
How can I give www-data...
Hi all,
I have an ongoing development of a home automation system that I've been building/amending/adding to for years.
Now I want to be able to control all the devices in my house via an...
It is seperate software, but I've found in the past that even compiling from source on a given distro won't allow it to talk to a server on a different distro, even though the versions are the same....
I didn't try 10.04, simply because even if that works, it'll have to come off again.
I have 5 Myth TV frontend clients that all talk to the server, if I downgrade to 10.04, I'll have to do all of...
Sadly, if I do that, Ubuntu - 10.10 (desktop/server/alternate) and 11.04 (d/s/a) AND 11.10 (d/s/a) all see no drives at all. They have been completely cleared and deleted.
The later versions 'kind...
Hi, thanks.
I'll give that a go - just trying something else at the moment, when that fails I'll try your method.
Thanks.
Reading some more around the forum, it seems that this is a commmon problem.
Is it even possible to get Ubuntu running with a RAID card? It sees the card and the drives, yet fails every single...
Hi, thanks for the reply.
I'm intending to use it as a Myth TV server. I intended to use RAID 0 for the OS partition(s). I'm not all that bothered about redundancy, if it dies, it dies and I'll...
Hi all,
I've been given a Dell PowerEdge 2800 and am trying to get Ubuntu installed on it. The Desktop edition failed as it couldn't see the RAID drives, so I tried 10.10 server edition. All goes...
