This just made Kino fail to open on my system.
The window opens blank and I have to force quit to shut it down.
Didn't work for me but...
Looks like an excellent try though. I hope it helps some...
why doesn't it just work when you install it from the "add/remove programs" list?
I don't even know why they offer virtualbox in add/remove programs since it's broken and takes days to fix. What a pain in the ***. I've wasted so much time trying to get any virtualbox to work it's...
One of my last hurtles in crossing over completely to Ubuntu is getting my videos from my DV camcorder to my laptop. Here's the issue - My laptop is a few years old and does not have built-in...

wasn't a problem in 7.10... I just let it have the plugins it said it needed and it messed it up. This thread should be a stickie thread since most people are going...
Cool!
I'll give it a try, but I think I'm going to install Hardy on a spare harddrive and play with it first before I dive into my main machine.
Thanks!
I'll post again when I get it going.

Does anyone know of a good map program for linux?
I've been using MS Streets and Trips for several years on my windows box and like the interface, but it won't install using WINE.

Have you tried unchecking "Dim display when idle" in power management?
I had the same problem.
When I would start my laptop the screen would be dim and each time I would have to manually change...
Quick update:
I don't know how I ended up loading the package, but all the broken icons (and a few that look fine) are part of a package called kcontrol.
Dependent packages are kdebase-data,...
Thanks for the reply!
No, I don't have KDE installed on top of Ubuntu.
I don't think that's even possible.
I'm using the standard Gnome icon set and the only thing I've loaded besides a few...
After upgrading to Hardy, I've noticed in my Applications/Other menu, many of the icons are "generic". They all seem to be part of a KDE package called "kcontrol" and they each bring up one kind of...
Got it!
In synaptic package manager, do a search for "vitualbox".
Look for virtualbox with it's checkbox checked.
Click on it and choose to remove completely.
Click apply...done!
I downloaded the .deb file and installed.
After hammering away for two days at getting virtualbox to work I'm throwing in the towel. Can anybody tell me how to uninstall it please?
Nope, guess again.
Installed virtualbox_1.6.0-30421_Ubuntu_hardy_i386.deb and have more issues. After setting up and creating a virtual machine I get:
VirtualBox kernel driver not installed....

I've tried to get virtualbox running without success on 8.04.
After downloading and installing it I was unable to find it.
When I attempted to launch it from terminal it told me to try installing...
It sounds to me like the font problem should be easy to tweak. The video problem might not be so easy. Is it fair to say that some hardware is better supported than others?
No complaints here, but I do feel the pain when I need to run my tax software each year, or I want to play that cool 3D game that's only able to work on WinXP. I'm dual booting with XP so it's always...
Hmmm... when i got tired of keyring asking me for my password every time I just disabled roaming mode and set up a manual connection. easy as pie!

Hi folks!
Used to download FLV files from YouTube using YouPlayer and play them offline in VLC player. After Hardy upgrade I only get audio and the whole machine is locked-up tighter than a drum....
