    [ubuntu] Dash returns no applications

When I use the Dash to search for installed applications so that I might use them, the Dash returns no results !

I have seen this on two of my machines both running Ubuntu 14.04.

    Any ideas ?

I give your suggestion of waiting a couple of minutes before entering my password a try, and let you know.

But many thanks for replying to my thread - I had given up all hope of a response (!)

  16. [SOLVED] Re: might be leaving Linux [ But where to go ?? ]

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400, and unless I install i8kutils it overheats. You could try the following:

    sudo apt-get install i8kutils

    ## Force loading at boot
    echo "i8k force=1" | sudo tee -a...
  17. [SOLVED] Re: Error while installing system upgrades. Possibly because of low HD space.

    Have you tried

    sudo apt-get clean
This will remove all the temporary files that you have downloaded during the software updates. It could free as much as 500Mb.
  18. [ubuntu] Re: Wireless connection appears to be working but internet randomly stops

I have absolutely no routers nearby. The nearest house is at least 1/2 a mile away and I haven't detected any router whatsoever (even using Android's Wifi Analyser) so that might be a red herring.
