    Thanks to cbowman57.
    I deleted the unwanted ones from /boot
    /lib/modules only contained the last two versions.

    Then I did another grub-update and the grub menu is vastly reduced.

    I have a very long list in my grub menu.
    If I do an update-grub here is the list of images (which is the same as displayed by the grub menu:

    I tried disabling NetworkManager with an update-rc.d remove etc but it still didnt work.
