Thank you so much!!!!!!!!! Blacklisting cx18 worked like a charm! I don't really care if I can't use the tv tuner, since I only use it in vista anyway.

Wow, the dmesg output is long. I can post it if you need me to, but here's a boot chart:
I don't think so (unless they install be default). My wireless works with no extra installations needed. "Intel PRO/wireless 3945ABG" is my wireless card.
It's probably also important to note that it hangs near the beginning of the loading bar for 40-50 seconds. No other part of the boot is slow.

Never mind. I just got it working by commenting out the debian sources.

I added the intrepid repositories in debian to install some packages, but I need to know how to add the pub key.

I just thought of something. Is it possible that everything was installed and configured properly, but there's some service that doesn't start up by default that you need for sound?

I'm pretty sure it's linux installed first :)
Ya, it'll be NTFS. And if you are going to dual boot xp and ubuntu with ubuntu installed first, you are going to have to reinstall the grub boot loader with the live cd after you install xp. Go here...
By no partitions do you mean ubuntu's the only one? If it is and you have enough free space I'm pretty sure you can resize it. I think you have to use the live cd though to unmount and shrink the...
Well, I had tested building up from a base install on both a virtual machine and a desktop and I'm pretty sure I tried unmuting it, as well as installing multiple packages suggested from different...
I did a hardy cli install not too long ago and tried to get a lighter ubuntu by just installing essentials (gdm, gnome, synaptic, xorg, firefox, etc.). That worked out fine and I noticed a speed...
After a minimal install, to get sound working, in terminal I typed:
sudo apt-get install alsa-base gnome-media gnome-audio gnome-volume-manager gnome-system-tools
it has to do with a problem in mksquashfs:
