    Have you tried setting a static IP and route after the last changes you did?


    sudo ifconfig eth0 [Your IP] netmask [Your network's netmask]
    sudo route add defatult gw [IP or your router]
    and...

    You don't have to restart your machine. Doing
    sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart should be enough.

    Just create a file /etc/resolv.conf and add the ip address for your router


    sudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf

    and add the following line:


    nameserver [IP address of your router]

    Mine is a bit different.

    I just can't set an IP address, not even manually. I put my backup back now and using good ol' hardy. I'm waiting for the cd to be delivered to attempt a clean install.
