[ubuntu] Re: Wireless driver for MacBook Pro 4,1?

Not got much to add except to say have you tried it without the WPA authentication switched on, just for the sake of testing?

I've read a few reports of WPA being a bit screwed up on 64-bit...

[ubuntu] Re: Wireless driver for MacBook Pro 4,1?

Hey, I believe you can treat it as a file archive and just unzip the sucker.

This old thread suggests using Unrar on the file.
  3. [ubuntu] Re: pommed doesn't work on my 4th gen MacBook Pro 15"

Hey jp, a good place to start debugging problems is to open a terminal window and kill the pommed daemon like so:

    sudo killall -1 pommed

Then restart pommed in the foreground with debugging...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: 8.04: Non-responsive touchpad on Penryn MacBook Pro

    Hah, you nailed it!

Absolutely outstanding work, I shall add this info to the Wiki right now. Many thanks!

EDIT: Someone's already done the honours, so I'm just going to revel in the glory of...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: 8.04: Non-responsive touchpad on Penryn MacBook Pro

It appears that the Touchpad shares the USB ID of the Keyboard. Here is the relevant verbose output from lsusb:

Bus 005 Device 003: ID 05ac:0231 Apple Computer, Inc.
    Device Descriptor:
    ...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: 8.04: Non-responsive touchpad on Penryn MacBook Pro

_alex_, great stuff. Certainly the line added to /etc/modprobe.d/options makes the fn key work (with the change to 0x0231 on my comp) however, I lose the touchpad after adding the line and...

[ubuntu] Re: How do you set up linux?

Hey Jack, there are a couple of really good resources that you can always check out for information about running Ubuntu on a Mac. The first is the ubuntu user documentation. I had a quick search...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: 8.04: Non-responsive touchpad on Penryn MacBook Pro

I'm using the method as described in the Community Docs, under Kernel/Compile.

    Basically,

    sudo apt-get build-dep linux-image-$(uname -r)
    apt-get source linux-image-$(uname -r)

    Followed by...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: 8.04: Non-responsive touchpad on Penryn MacBook Pro

It seems recompiling the Kernel to give Fn support is the culprit here. I am clearly missing something in the process. I cannot for the life of me imagine what it could be, though - I'm recompiling...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: 8.04: Non-responsive touchpad on Penryn MacBook Pro

Yes indeed, I realised this soon after posting, it was pointless to mention all of the Synaptics errors. Many thanks for your time, Cyberdork.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: 8.04: Non-responsive touchpad on Penryn MacBook Pro

In an effort to get the ball rolling, and before I had read your reply, I reinstalled the Ubuntu Kernel using Update Manager. This brought my touchpad back to life, so a step in the right direction...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: 8.04: Non-responsive touchpad on Penryn MacBook Pro

As far as I'm aware, no. I've checked through dmesg and my xorg.0.log and can find no mention of appletouch. I've been googling around the subject but can't find any definitive posts on how to go...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: 8.04: Non-responsive touchpad on Penryn MacBook Pro

Cheers for the pointer, cyberdork. I'd read about this elsewhere, but I'm not looking to engage Multitouch features just yet, simply being able to use the trackpad would be a start. Booting into...
  14. [ubuntu] 8.04: Non-responsive touchpad on Penryn MacBook Pro

I'm getting no response from the touchpad on my MacBook Pro [Penryn, Feb 2008] using the Synaptics Driver.

I've got the Input Device set up in my xorg.conf, including the "SHMConfig" "True"...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: pommed doesn't work on my 4th gen MacBook Pro 15"

Aha, well that explains that then.

I am experiencing further odd behaviour since patching the kernel.

Muting sound stops brightness controls from working until reboot. Restarting Pommed...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: pommed doesn't work on my 4th gen MacBook Pro 15"

OK, cracked the sucker. Had to recompile the kernel as stated here: Bug #207127: FN Key Doesn't Work in Hardy With MacBook Pro Fourth Generation

However, my Device ID was different from the one...
  17. [ubuntu] Re: pommed doesn't work on my 4th gen MacBook Pro 15"

    Edit: Reinstalling Linux.
  18. [ubuntu] Re: pommed doesn't work on my 4th gen MacBook Pro 15"

    Hi,

I'm having the same problem. Having installed Pommed 1.6 using Synaptic Package Manager and the repository URL given above and then resetting just in case it might help, I get nothing but the...
