hey.. i just found a fix for my problem. i had to install the linux-backports-modules-alsa-maverick-generic-pae through synaptic. everything has gone back to how it was... now to fix the problem that...
is anyone still watching this thread who has a solution?

i'm having the same problem "waiting for sound system to respond" and deleting the .pulse folder doesn't work.
but i still have sound..
