outSTANDING trick. I absolutely LOVE this stuff :-D Cheers! don't know that I have an immediate use for it, but that is a beautiful thing
What is the point of switching to linux if I didn't want to tinker and play with things? Sometimes I just get lost and have to stop and ask directions. ;-) Cheers! I had completely forgotten...
Hey, thanks a ton. Obvious answer was obvious in hindsight. I noticed that if I put a geometry larger than the screen would handle it automagicaly just goes to a maximized window. Is there any...
Thanks for the quick reply! This particular one is a launcher [made using "System>Prefrences>Main Menu>New Item"] opening an ssh connection in a terminal. the command is just "ssh [user]@[ip]" and...
I have a launcher set up to run the command in a terminal window and it would be lovely to have the window automatically maximize. Is there a way to do this?
Certainly until they fix the drawer delay or make it user-variable, that's for sure :-P
You may want to make the thread [SOLVED] though, so people realize that it holds the/a solution...
I know this thread is older than old, but I came across it while looking for a solution tot he same problem. I ended up setting up a new menu under Applications, then adding that menu to the panels...
Working on the answer to my question about the indicator, I was able to stuff Empathy back in its box by following this post, but as soon as I get a message, it pops back out and the message...
Odd, I have 2.30.2 and Synaptic says I don't have anything to update. Equally odd is that, while working on my xorg.conf I had to reboot a few times and noticed today that my sounds in Empathy...
other than the fact that I don't have an "unamplified" mark on my volume bar, my settings are the same.
Yes, the sounds are turned on in Empathy's settings.
The package that I saw kicking around was called sound-theme-freedesktop and for the PPA I used
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:telepathy/ppa &&...
I haven't been able to get sounds out of Empathy since I installed [running 10.04] and decided today was the day to fix this. I looked on google and found some older threads, one suggested that I...
*sigh* never thought I'd hear that in a Linux conversation....
Wow. Tons of information. Thanks! I'd like to learn more about this kind of stuff, would that be BASH scripting or something else? I have previous coding experience but not at all in linux/BASH...
Outstanding. Thank you. The for loop suits my needs well enough. How might I then use the variables as I would in a single command? for example one might use
rename 's/(\d{4})/Summer of...
I have been using the gnome-terminal rename command with regexp to bulk rename files, but have to run several consecutive renames some times. Is there a way to pass the results from one directly...
Every topic I can find when I search for this comes up with people wanting to install to a fakeRAID array, which is not what I am looking for. I have a SSD with the OCS running on it just fine and...
Sorry I haven't updated, I forgot all about this thread. I installed on a different hard drive and haven't had an issue since, so I guess for the time being I am going to stand by my previous...
For those playing along at home, I used palimpsest to set up a fully software-based RAID 0+1 setup tonight. I might try for a hybri hardware/software setup this wekeend when I next have time to mess...
Perhaps. Some of the other options specifically list a "5", not sure why they would have used an "S" instead on some. I haven't had time to look into it yet though, maybe it is explained in the...
Absolutely! This board has been an outstanding resource for me so far. I like to hang out and ask in the IRC chan as well, but I do tend to have better success/solution rate here on the forums.
No, I didn't. I haven't used linux in years [played with a Red Hat distro in the mid 90's]], but I remember enough that the first thing I tried would have been man xrandr to figure out how to use...
Hm... That line, modified of course, may work for what I was looking to do. presumably I could change that to something like
xrandr --output [[netbook display name]] --mode 1024x600 --output...
ronpartent - thanks for the help. I won't have time to work on this tonight as I just got in from a 15 hour day and I have a good seven hours before I have to be back at it, but a quick look at the...
