You could try using the CloneZilla live CD to make a backup of the bad partition. Then you could restore it onto a new drive.
I e-mailed the author in Greece and he was really nice. It turns out that I still needed to be on the Clonezilla half of his CD for this. It's all good now. Thanks for the help.
I got the command from this guy's instructions here, which so far have been good.

I don't suppose anyone knows anything about the Linux System Rescue CD.
I know it's not Ubuntu-related, but you guys are all so helpful I was hoping somebody knows about it.

.bin/.cue is a CD image format like .ISO.
You can load it as a virtual CD drive with Daemon Tools.
I did that. That doesn't work. Neither does doing the corresponding FIXMBR / FIXBOOT or even an XP INSTALL on the Windows or a blank drive.
There is something wrong with the hardware so that the...
I have a Dell 400SC Server (2.4 Hyperthread) machine that still runs great. I have Windows on it and I have been dual-booting Feisty Fawn, although I now have another Linux server with Hardy so I...

Sega Genesis uses the same controller scheme (electrically) as the old Atari 2600, 8bit, 5200 and ColecoVision. You can plug Sega Genesis controllers directly into an Atari and they work great (even...
How applications are compiled matters a little, but the reality is that on any operating system there are at least 50 things going on when you are sitting at the desktop after boot.
If you ever...
I don't know the solution, but it's saying that it can't find ALSA (a sound driver) at /dev/snd (where your sound card lives).
I got a simliar issue one time when I had disabled sound on my...
Given those choices, I would say try it. If you have problems, you were going to reinstall anyway.
Just back up the irreplaceable data first.
You can't use the Live CD with 256MB of RAM. It requires about 350.
Use the Alternate Install CD instead. It uses a text-mode installer.
Windows Remote Desktop works the way you want by default, but really requires "Terminal Services" to be on if you want more than 2-3 users. That requires a Windows Server OS. VNC on Ubuntu does not...
In your router, there are settings called "Port Forwarding". Set the VNC port # to point to the internal IP address of the computer that you want to control. I don't know what the port # is off the...
The same thing happens to me. For some reason, if I try to double-click it a second time, it connects, prompts me and works great.
Can you do
sudo lshw
in a terminal window and find the model of the Wireless card and post it here? Once you do that, people can help you better.
I agree that a release candidate should be like the final version in every way.
Except one.
The About Box should show the RC number.
That's what I was wondering. The fact that Update Manager suggested the download and I didn't see any Beta or RC markers makes me think that this is final.
If you can get the chipset (sudo iwconfig) of the Broadcom and also what brand your wireless switch is, that would help.
I had a Netgear wireless switch and it just dropped off intermittently. I...
Hey, thanks a lot for the info. I saw your other thread and I'm glad you got it solved for both of us. I use PopFile on Windows but I thought it would be nicer built-in.
I can't believe that it...

I solved quite a few of the games listed on this thread (TMNT for NES, etc.).
One of the Batmans for NES was really hard. Basically, the last boss throws a screen-sized fireball at you that you...
