Aah..I neglected to hit "enter" after I added the UUID to /etc/fstab.

I am now going to proceed with the other steps.

I rebooted, and the SSD appears...

I use Asunder CD Ripper, available in the Software Center. Rhythmbox will rip CDs, but I find it very slow.
