When I'm recording in gnome-sound-recorder, I can use pavucontrol to change what source it records from.

[ubuntu] Re: Change niceness from command

    That's fantastic. Cheers Dave :)

I had to convert it into this to get it to work in a Unity quicklist.

    gnome-terminal -x bash -c "sudo renice -10 $(pidof process-name)"

    Not sure why I can't...

    [ubuntu] Change niceness from command

    Hi.

I'd like to change an application's niceness from the command line but by process name rather than PID.

    I can already do this:

    sudo renice -10 9461

To change niceness by PID, but this...

[ubuntu] Re: Midi EDITOR for Gnome

    Hi.

Did you ever find a nice lightweight MIDI Editor?
I tried Rosegarden but found it too bloated for my needs...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Disable or Remove MIDI Client Through Port in ALSA

I've tried using aconnect to connect the MIDI Through Port to itself exclusively, hoping this would stop it appearing to SEQ24 but no such luck. Can anyone help me with this? Cheers.
  8. [ubuntu] Disable or Remove MIDI Client Through Port in ALSA

I'm using SEQ24. It's great, but everytime I create a new MIDI clip in it, it defaults to my first MIDI port.

    This is

    14:0 Client Through MIDI Port

Is there anyway I can disable this...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Disable menu bars in windows and force Global Appmenu

I've somehow fixed it by disabling certain FileZilla window features, making it more minimal in appearance. It doesn't do it anymore - I've loaded and unloaded it about 20 times straight.

    Also, if...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Disable menu bars in windows and force Global Appmenu

I started a thread on the Filezilla forum:

    http://forum.filezilla-project.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20591

The admin there says he thinks Ubuntu ships with a global menu exclusion list. I haven't...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Disable menu bars in windows and force Global Appmenu

    Ah.

Is there a way to force it to launch maximized at all times, via the launcher?

Or a way to disable the old school menu bars completely. I have no application which uses them under Unity,...
  12. [ubuntu] Disable menu bars in windows and force Global Appmenu

I'm using Filezilla in Natty and it keeps bringing up its own menu bar in its own window.

Obviously I want all my applications to only use the top new Global Appmenu Bar. It currently makes...

  14. [ubuntu] Re: Mouse problems in Ubuntu 11.04 (dead zones on the screen)

Apparently the problem is with the 'Static Application Switcher' in Compiz. If you use CCSM to untick that plugin, the problem should go away.

Of course you lose Alt-Tab, but there are enough...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Mouse problems in Ubuntu 11.04 (dead zones on the screen)

Used for over 12 hours without any symptoms.
Didn't do anything technical during this time, simply used already installed programs. Didn't even go into the Control Centre.

    There's something that...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Mouse problems in Ubuntu 11.04 (dead zones on the screen)

It's still happening for me, despite my message earlier.

I find if I reboot, and then only use my installed applications, its much less likely to come back. It seems to start happening more...
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Mouse problems in Ubuntu 11.04 (dead zones on the screen)

    It's a bit of a crap bug :)

Anyway, I've been going strong for over a day now without any problems reoccuring, so the:

    sudo apt-get autoremove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

    terminal command I...

    sudo apt-get autoremove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

Was most evident in dialogue boxes and in unresponsive hyperlinks in Google Chrome. A...
