Try removing xorg.conf.
Half the time X can run without one. Just make sure you move it to say xorg.conf.bak, rather than deleting it.
You can also try X -configure.
If I recall correctly.
It's a wine thing. If you want your wine to remain stable, you should try just compiling it from source, and keeping the version that works.
The log you want is in /var/log/dpkg.log
DPKG powers...
Symlinks are quite persistent, the fix is permanent. Just as a note, you can pretend a file is another file all the time, and even whole directories! Symlinks are useful; for example, if you dual...
You're right, of course. Forgive me, my mind is a little scattered from a session of sorting out bash's peculiar eccentricities.
Well, let me know how it works out for you... I just wrote it today, so there could still be some bugs hiding in it (god forbid).
Oh wait, just noticed one. the $X in the feh line needs to become...
Well, this is just a guess, but I bet you could find a .deb or theme package mint uses. Those sorts of things *should* be interchangeable. I doubt mint would write a whole new menu. Unfortunately,...
If you have the ATI fglrx drivers, you should have the Catalyst Control Center somewhere. Probably in the system menu. You should use that.
I for one dislike nouveau, and for a performance home theatre machine, it would be suboptimal, I think. It's still rather buggy and under heavy development.
You can try nvidia-xconfig (just pop...
So I got bored today, and decided that my desktop just wasn't interesting enough. So I wrote this script. It'll cycle through random .png and .jpg images in a directory. Here's the script.

So the webcam fix doesn't work.
I even tried downloading the latest tarball from the devs upstream and configuring it... no dice. I'd be tempted to break into the case and flip it back upright,...
Hey guys, I just recently got a A52JR, with the ATI 5470M. All the above solutions worked beautifully, thanks so much for all the effort. I think I may have a solution for your resolution issues.

Check to make sure nothing is muted.
Check by running pavucontrol in a terminal and by using the speaker icon in the corner of the screen.
Oooh, I think I may know this one.
I run my 32bit ePSXe in my x64 linux by cheating a little.
(This is on karmic, btw)
I took the required (old) 32bit .debs, (not necessarily karmic, i used...
I've never heard of pSX. As such I am not familiar with it, so you could try a different emu. ePSXe and PCSX are both good. iirc, PCSX is even in the ubuntu repos.
I've played with PCSX a LITTLE, but after hitting major problems with my joypad and input plugins, I eventually reverted to running ePSXe with wine, which works just as well, if a little slower. I...
Neverwinter Nights... is not an MMO, if I recall correctly. NWN is a DnD-based game which can be played by yourself, or with a group of friends. I DONT RECALL ever seeing a NWN-mmo style scenario, so...
go to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
A full command would be...
gksu gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
(Don't forget that the "X" in X11 is capitalized...)
You NEED the proprietary drivers, at this point, unfortunately.
That's the biggest problem.
If you can't use the "restricted" ubu drivers, download the ones from NVIDIA and install them...
Hmmm... So, to consolidate...
The repo version is old, and I'd need to compile from source...
Does it supposrt 3d accel with OpenGL AND DX or just OpenGL?
How much of the performance hit...
Amen to fluxbox. I'm using it now, and it flies.
Bump.
Is this a feasable thing to do? Will I take a huge performance hit from running a VM? Comments in general? (this would be XP)
Can you set the "open with" menu to the command "sh" (or bash, I'm not an expert by any means...)? (assuming it's a shell script...)
I say GNOME if you aren't going with someone who doesn't need/want a huge amount of eyecandy. I've found it runs faster and is easier to configure in my experience. Then again, I haven't tried KDE...
