    kernel log shows that the system froze at the times shewn above. another issue related to kernlog was that of "clocksource tsc unstable". not sure whether this might play the role.

    Dude you are right, IF MY WASTE BASKET CONTAINS ANYTHING then it WON'T open and then desktop space freezes. Unless I empty it by right-click it won't open!
