ok, i had a similar problem until i installed PulseAudio.

see the only problem with istanbul is that i cant get it to stop recording! once i left-click it to start, i cant stop it. I end up having to kill the process.

I just ended up wiping my hd and installing a fresh ubuntu, which basically fixed all my problems (took out Windows).

Is there a way of getting my current themes, customizations, files in ubuntu back in a fresh install?
