    Same problem here. No panels (or desktop icons) at boot. Alt+F2 then killall gnome-panel brings them up until the next reboot.

    This is really annoying.

    Awesome... That sounds like it would be much easier and less risky than trying something like I mentioned in my above post.

    That would be a very useful feature...Many people splice their Ubuntu...
