Purged both the x ppa and the compiz one, deactivated the video driver, from additional drivers, and rebooted....

Graphics Card is: ATI Radeon HD 5450

Driver is 8.723.1-100408a-098580C-ATI

You could be right there, it could also be fixed with the latest kernel updates ... Next time it happens I'll search those logs out and post them for the time stamp.

My new hard drive which was less than a month old died Yesterday :-( I guess I should have paid attention to the warning.

Installed fresh Karmic Koala, but when I try to play a DVD in any of the media players it just crashes out, here's the output of vlc:

The Network seems to be having trouble staying connected then a reboot is required ... :-( still not great for an upgrade

On a more positive note, my Acer Aspire 1350 which rarely worked with Windows properly, didn't work with 8.* or 9.04, is working nicely under 9.10.

I did an upgrade with one of the beta releases of 9.10, and got the error, so I stripped the old drive out and bought a new 500Gb drive around 3 weeks ago. I did a clean install, but just this...
