Wonderful! This works 100% in 12.04. I tried other scripts that didn't do anything.

I removed e4rat and here is the bootchart attached. It gives me 1 min. Of note, with e4rat, i was getting around 1:15 min of boot time. That sounds kind of strange.
I uploaded the bootchart log...

For bootchart, i believe the issue is with the image size that ubuntuforum allows. I uploaded it to GDrive, but it...
Thanks for the reply dude. However, i have removed ureadahead and have been using e4rat to see if there is any difference in boot time.
Of note, I have the following hardware.

Exactly my thoughts. Let us know if you got some super lightweight script to do that.
Since the time I upgraded to 12.04, the boot time has gone up a bit. It shows around 1 min 15 seconds in bootchart. It is not too bad but I think there is scope for improvement.
Upon running...
Got the same problem on Dell 1555. Eagerly awaiting a fix for it.
I am facing the exact same issue with Ubuntu 12.04 :(
The reason for apps not showing up in dash was that the version in .desktop files was different from the version of the application installed.
Look for the .desktop files in the following...
I just updated the BIOS and the fan noise is back :(
Then I removed fglrx-updates and installed fglrx to see if that had any effect. After that, I ran to get the proper xorg file.

Expense Register works the best to record expenses on an Android device and get it on GNUCash.
I installed fglrx-update from synaptic as I was unable to install it from Additional Drivers. Now, the laptop is much less hot and the fan doesn't make noise at all. However, I still have lower...
Since upgrade to 12.04, I have been noticing excessive fan noise in my Dell 1555 laptop. I have dual boot and upon logging in Windows Vista, I don't find any noise and the laptop is calm.

I used ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp to get gimp 2.8.
Strange thing is GIMP shows up in Gnome DE and FVWM without any issues, but it doesn't show up in Unity.

I am faced with exact same issue with some installed apps such as GIMP are not showing up in dash. However, when I press Alt+F2 and search for GIMP, it shows up there and starts without any issues....
For me, some installed apps are not showing up such as GIMP.
In another case, icons of some apps such as Picasa via wine are showing up but they simply don't start the said application.
Also,...
I just installed GIMP and i got .desktop file for it in the said folder, but it simply would not show up in unity menu. However, it does show up if I log in GNOME.
eabel - Could you please elaborate what exactly you did. I am on 12.04 and stuck with same issue. The workstation is not dead and I am able to login but only with 2D Unity.
I am having the same problem with no resolution found yet.
