Porting TextEdit from OSX (TextEdit is open source) would be perfect.

Thanks - I'll do that to get the files.
What can I do to fix the system? I'd really rather not do a fresh install. Why has this happened?
Why can't Linux just work? Everytime I've installed it...
This is a HUGE issue for me, as it happens when my computer is starting up. What can I do about it?
Having to fix broken stuff yourself. When there's a big fail, there's often not much information available on how to fix it.
I used to find it was drivers, so I got a fully compatible PC. But now...
I'm a writer. I work for myself, and I use Xubuntu every day, for almost everything.
Setting up your own business gives you lots of freedom in how you set up your computer.
I keep windows for printing. Ubuntu printing drivers are unreliable. That's all.
Hello,
I have been using *buntu operating systems since 2008. Usually manage to find my way around any small problems through the forums, but this one has me stumped.
During boot-up, I get the...
I use the markdown format - easily converts to html. ReText or gedit both work well for me.
I like pyroom - distraction free text editing software.

Also, is there a way to export to html?
Pyroom is the same thing for Linux. It's in the Ubuntu Software Centre.
An alternative to TomBoy is nvPY, note taking software that syncs with SimpleNote (so you can read and edit notes on your smartphone).
Another brilliant choice, not yet mentioned, is Tree Sheets....

Wow, that is a very sexy website! The screenshots look very similar to a Mac, rather than a Windows PC, so I guess it would be great for Mac users.
I agree Cinnamon is buggy.
Faster, more basic distros such as Xubuntu or Lubuntu are very easy for Windows users, as the desktop and menu set up is very similar to Windows XP.
That's a crazy rule. You mean I can't edit my profile until I have written 50 forum posts? I'm somewhat active, I've been a member for three years, and I can't update my profile. Crazy daisy...

I also want to do this. It was possible in 11.10, but it's broken in 12.04.

I know it's a long time after Monday, but I need some clarification/precise instructions.
Thanks!
Alternative Solution
This solution didn't work for me, but changing the default terminal emulator in Settings Manager -> Preferred Applications did work.

Still haven't found simplenote sync-ing software for Ubuntu, but I HAVE found a Notational Velocity clone.
Notetak is available for download from http://liw.iki.fi/liw/notetak/index.html

Thanks Cariboo! Where might I find such a student?
I would also LOVE to see a SimpleNote client for Ubuntu. I'm very surprised no one else has commented on this thread to request this.
The Mac client, Notational Velocity, is open source. I'm not a...
What if you want to zoom to 100%, but still want the page in the center?
If I zoom to page width the text is too big.
If I zoom to 100% the page is on the left hand side, it looks ugly.

Bump! I also want to know how to do this. Choosing the GTK theme option in preferences does NOT change the close/maximise/minimise buttons.
