I always find dedoimedo's reviews thorough and stimulating. This one is worth a look.

Re: Linux/ubuntu - how can i make it popular ?

That's strange: there seems to have been an approving reference to Thelema (or so Google tells me). In any case, I don't think Timmer was referring to religion as such but to my kind of FLOSSy...

Hah a critique of proselytizing religions. What's the alternative Tibuda?
  6. Re: Has Ubuntu 11.10 ruined the experience for anyone else? What do you use now?

Dudes, stay curious, use this as an opportunity to explore alternate ways to interface with your computer's processes. Try running a slim window manager like Openbox panel-less. It's a lot of fun....

Re: Apple Opens source for its lossless audio codec

    Thanks whistling, much appreciated!

Now I will echo someone else's post (I'm too lazy to quote them but they know who they are) and say the more open the better! So all in all, we are, speaking...

Re: Apple Opens source for its lossless audio codec

Oh boy. This little exchange went from my suggesting the absence of a necessity to keep ALAC closed, to my citing an obvious example (in fact one that gsmanners also used), to accusations that I'm...

Re: Apple Opens source for its lossless audio codec

Well value is an interesting and long discussion, but let's just remark that Apple by some sleight of hand (never mind what it is here, though I'd be happy to elaborate elsewhere) has managed to...

Re: Apple Opens source for its lossless audio codec

Uh you're the only one talking about victimhood here. I quite enjoy the role of Linux fundamentalist, but I wasn't playing that here. Apple's software is top notch. Their hardware is overpriced....

Re: Apple Opens source for its lossless audio codec

Closed source software keeps their users tied to their hardware. That's the Apple mantra, as it has always has been.

    I disagree.

Rishi, bang them over the head with it! Linux! Linux! Linux! Linux!

Also, how are two loves mutually exclusive?

Re: Apple Opens source for its lossless audio codec

Making ALAC in the first place instead of opting for FLAC was unfriendly. If they had anything to gain financially from ALAC they would've kept it shut down.

    Re: Minimalistic Web Browsers.

If Ubuntu maintains their packages, search for them in Synaptic. Or install in the command line.

    For instance,

    apt-get install uzbl

    installs uzbl.

If other packages are not in the...

    Re: Minimalistic Web Browsers.

Conkeror is not exactly minimalist, but it has a clean interface with a modeline and is controlled by Emacs-like bindings.

It's fun for awhile, but I find something like Chromium to be a better...
