    [ubuntu] Re: ATI driver

  7. [ubuntu] Re: xrandr won't let me increase screen resolution

No, it doesn't have anything to do with the UNR UI etc. It is really an issue of Intel outsourcing the graphics solution for their GMA500 "poulsbo" chipset and then not supporting the driver for a...

IIRC, the 32 bit server kernel uses PAE, where I believe that the desktop version does not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension

I didn't realize that you were on that version of alsa. Please use this upgrade script and it should fix your problem.

  21. [ubuntu] Re: Unkown Monitor: only 800x600, 640x480 and 400x300 screen resolution ?

    Sorry about being more specific.

press control + shift + F1 (or F2-F5) to get to a real terminal and then type the command.
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Unkown Monitor: only 800x600, 640x480 and 400x300 screen resolution ?

There is no xorg.conf by default. To generate one, type:

    sudo gdm stop

    sudo Xorg -configure

It puts it in your come directory, so type,

    sudo cp ~/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
  23. [ubuntu] Re: Unkown Monitor: only 800x600, 640x480 and 400x300 screen resolution ?

no modes mens that it cannot get any EDID modes from your monitor. You'll have to create a modeline in your xorg.conf.

    Please type:

    lspci

    and paste the whole output
