Did you get anywhere with this? I just installed Jaunty on the same laptop, ran all updates, still no audio.
Worked for me on 8.10, but only after I set umountcifs to K00!

What does your /etc/hosts file contain?
Did you check that you have the relevant h.264 plugin installed? It may be that the upgrade removed it?
