I can confirm that the nvidia card can be switched off on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS...

Nevermind, I just realized I can bind "xdotool mousedown <arg>" to simulate a constant left-click :)

I'm also on a ul30vt 64-bit ubuntu lucid, and it works here. Strange :-k. Are you sure you're not using the nvidia card?

It does, I updated the deb-package according to http://www.mail-archive.com/asus-ul30@lists.launchpad.net/msg00104.html so suspend/resume is supported. Maybe it is supported in the package you point...
