Thank you
I'm sorry. I don't know all the Linux commands. Could somebody please make a script for me that does:
Delete Thatfolder and everything in it
Create Thatfolder
Copy Thisfolder/everything to...
OK, No matter what theme I try all my requestors are white on light blue or grey on darker grey. Nothing to do with my browser. I mean in the OS. How to I change that system-wide white or grey text...
I am using Ultimate Ubuntu but it's still Ubuntu 12.04. The text input fields in many requestors and text fields are either white on very light blue or grey on slightly darker grey. Aweful! How do I...
I disagree. The "hidden files" include your settings for your software. Also think about other things you may have installed or modified and include them in the backup.
This is my personal backup...
At 00:00:00 UTC on May/01/2012 your computer will implode and create a black hole. The Solar System will be destroyed and it will be YOUR fault for still using Version 10.10.

No. Just...
Mine doesn't either unless I used this little script
11.04 and under version
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
11.10 version

But with 4 Gigs of RAM.
Oh yes. I use LXDE for most of my operations. I've used Linux on and off for a few years and it still makes me smile when I enter my password, press enter and LXDE pops up ready to go in a few...
I was thinking of installing Debian on a partition just for fun. The problem as I recall from last time is that Debian installs with basic do-nothing drivers (I had a nasty 800x600 screen and no...
I see. The same reason (more or less) why Windows XP **FLYS** on my system and Vista plods. Well luckily Linux Is Linux so I'll stick with 10.10. I don't NEED Gnome 3 and KDE4.

Here's a puzzler. I've been playing with 11.10, 11.04 and 10.10. The same set-up (as far as I can anyway) the same graphic driver the same software the same ext4 format.
11.10 strains with two...
Re: The original question.
I installed "Ultimate Ubuntu 2.9". Super cool (but based on 10.10) and has massive stuff already installed and working including Compiz. I installed LXDE and clicked on...
I must correct something I said X number of days/weeks ago. 11.10 isn't a slow pig......***GNOME/Unity*** is a slow pig! I tried LXDE with 11.10 and my system runs very quickly. So....do I...
I was planning on just using a simple script with rsynch in it.
I have plenty of drive space on my external so I don't care how large the backup is. I can start it then go to bed so if it takes 3...
I have the same situation. The simple answer is keep track of what you added/changed and copy it to a backup folder. For me that would be:
/home/fred
/etc/grub d/40_custom...
IMHO if there is no Grub found in the MBR Linux must assume that the install is damaged or incomplete.

I may have misjudged you or misread your posts. Apologies.

Oh that's why. I thought my...
Ah yes. The fact that M$ (and Apple) spends many millions on advertising and Bill cut a deal with computer makers that 99.99% of all new PCs ship with Windows(tm) on them has nothing to do with it. ...
Actually Linux (OK, Unix/X-Windows) had a GUI well before 1990.
Which of the multiple Linux UIs are you referring to? Personally I'll take KDE, Gnome or LXDE over the Windows UI any day. I've...
Very true. I agree with you. There is one that is very close to that. Ylmf. It is a Linux that is so "Windows-ized" that the average user would say "Oh, cool, a new (but kinda different) version of...
>The average user does not even know what grub is nor should they care.
Linux is *NOT FOR* the "average user". It is for people who want to know how the system works, want to customise it and want...
It seems that Ubuntu (or Linux anyway) can't read CDs and DVDs that were written by Windows Vista under Cyberlink "Power2Go"! Do I need a special driver for the weird version of UDF that Windows...
Oh I see. That 2.7 is "available for system" use rather than "total physical RAM installed" Ok ty Time to dig into the BIOS and see where its being used. .5 Gig of the "missing memory" is graphic...
