    I do in fact have Synaptic installed. I will have a look and try what you suggest.

    Like yourself I don't mess with things I don't understand.

    All connected by USB, gave up on wireless.

    The LAN is by wireless, this is working correctly.

    I really want to know how to reset CUPS to its default state so I can start again.

    No Luck I'm afraid.

    I presume that firstly in the dialogue box with listed printers I highlight the one I wish to network, then go to Server/Settings. When I do this I get an overlay:-

    1.0.25 actually installed in /usr/lib/sane
    1.0.22 is in /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/sane

    I haven't moved any files, so this is how 1.0.22 was filed during my Ubuntu...

    I forgot to say that I renamed libsane-pixma-1.0.22 so that it is effectively archived; only 1.0.24 files are in the libraries.

    I did i fact try their forum, no go there. So I have dumped it and installed AVG; that requires commands in terminal, so no GUI but it works.
