Ever since I upgraded to 11.10 I can't seem to locate power manager. Neither does gnome-power-manager work in shell.
How do I set the timeout in the terminal ?
I just upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 and after restart it showed the login screen. After login, only the desktop background shows with ubuntu 11.10 text at the left-bottom corner.
Did my GNOME crash...
Command line worked ! Thanks !
I still can't get the update manager GUI to work though.
System > Administration > Update Manager
On clicking Install Updates, nothing happens. The screen just blinks for a second.

I've installed eclipse and android manually at /opt.
How do I make /opt/android writable by eclipse ? I don't want to chmod it to 777.

This is happening with Google Earth too.
Whats common among Opera, OpenOffice, Google Earth and VLC Player ?
Where are these settings defined ?
Nope. No error. I just ran soffice from the terminal and OpenOffice started to load - it logged me off when it almost finished loading.
Btw, same thing seems to happen when I open VLC player & Opera.
I just upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10.
Now when I open OpenOffice, I simply get logged off and Im shown the login screen.
Awesome ! It worked. Thanks.

I am on Ubuntu 10.04 but why does my FireFox show the User-Agent containing Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) ?
Two different routers - one for each ISP. Thats how its setup in office. The network guy will switch to another router when one is down.
Oh...ok, so an additional ethx would mean additional NIC ?
Yes, one NIC but may change ISPs via the routers quite often resulting in different gateways.
Thanks
If I try to add a new interface (eth1) to /etc/network/interfaces, I get
* Reconfiguring network interfaces... ...
I did have the computer switched on the whole night tough - this happened today morning.
I don't understand how this could've happened in the first place as it can't be a voltage fluctuation problem...

Just tried a 8.04 live CD - it works. I was able to locate the internal HDD from nautilus.
I had upgraded to 10.04 a while ago which was working fine.
I now made an update and on reboot, I get
