    [ubuntu] Re: nvidia-current broken...at my wit's end....

    Thanks for the warning, Mark.

I'll probably just leave it w/ x edgers till something horribly breaks, then roll back to stock Ubuntu and hope my nvidia-current problem is solved there.

    I don't know. I followed their advice.

    So, I did the following:
    1.) Install PPA.
    2.) sudo apt-get update
3.) sudo apt-get dist-upgrade <-- This installed and upgraded a whole boatload of...

    Thanks Mark.

Yeah, you definitely want to go in with both eyes open. xorg-edgers is pretty bleeding edge stuff. I'm happy that it got me past my problem, but, if Ubuntu ever resolves the...

    [ubuntu] Re: nvidia-current broken...at my wit's end....

Ok, well, I switched back to X edgers PPA, did an update/dist-upgrade/install nvidia-current, and it worked fine, and I'm on the much updated 320-17 version.

    So far, so good.

    [ubuntu] Re: dist-upgrade on 11.04 breaks nvidia-current

Wow, I'm really sorry. I totally screwed up the directions.

For the 'repackage' step, you need to do:

    dpkg-deb --build name_of_new_package.deb

Try that, then try installing the new package:...

    [ubuntu] Re: dist-upgrade on 11.04 breaks nvidia-current

Nope, you repackage with '-I'. See steps below:

cd <directory above tmpdir, where you originally put the .deb that was unpackaged>
    dpkg -I name_of_your_new_package.deb

    Then try the install. ...

    [SOLVED] Re: kernel upgrade

Or, better yet, find a ppa, like abogani, that already has 3.0 kernel available for installation.

Yes, I have a ppa for the '-lowlatency' kernel.

Looking at /etc/apt/sources.list.d, the following ppas are installed:

    mjb@mercury:/etc/apt/sources.list.d$ grep ppa *.list...

    [ubuntu] Solved: dist-upgrade on 11.04 breaks nvidia-current

    Hi all,

    I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 on x86-64.

I did 'sudo apt-get update' and 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' and when I did, it gave me kernel 3.0. (3.0.0-7-lowlatency, to be specific.)
