Finally got the (alps) touchpad of my VPCSA to be recognized and double finger scrolling working!
I essentially followed the instructions from here that were meant for a dell Vostro.
Still...
About offline contacts being shown online I have the same problem. It also seems to affect disabled accounts as well.
Contacts from accounts that I disable are still displayed as online...
My suggestion is to use pidgin instead.
The way in which empathy gives new message notifications is really annoying (unusable from my perspective)... but it seems that it's not going to be changed.
