    Re: libreoffice

I was under the impression the LO is getting more active development and upgrades, whereas OOorg is just something else that Oracle inherited from Sun.

[SOLVED] Re: Mount Windows partitions on login?

It's not too hard. You just have to edit your /etc/fstab file. Make a backup first (!)

This article explains how to do this without knowing the details (I do not have direct experience with this...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: 12.04 dual boot problems with vista 32bit

Not that it sounds like a problem per se but sometimes I see people using very old flash drives ... so be sure you have a good one.

    @phog

I don't think we are getting Ubuntu working here...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: 12.04 dual boot problems with vista 32bit

I've never used a USB version of Ubuntu (except once as a test with Puppy linux). But in general, I'd probably just re-install. I have always installed from CD's and never had a problem ... except...

Re: need help with setting up nameserver

Unless you have a nameserver at ns1.sample.com (and have a DNS server to resolve the name) then that won't work. And since you obviously don't have a DNS server, it's a chicken-egg problem. You'd...

    Re: Resizing Partition

Resizing sda5 won't affect the 253 Gb partition at all. I use Gparted for such things. Backups are always in order even though in reality I rarely have problems.

Re: need help with secure delete

You didn't say what program it is but I'm sure it's fine ... there's several to choose from (gui and non-gui) and they all do the same thing, either secure, super-secure, or super-super-secure ... :)
  12. Re: Apt-get issues, need help finding a way to replace files

I'm really not an expert as such. I'd probably re-install my O/S at this point - in fact I do that about once a year anyway (it's maybe an hour of work getting settings as I like them and installing...
  13. Re: Truecrypt and login prompt process on start

    Hi,
There's no reason to mount an encrypted drive when no one is logged in. Why would you need to do this?

Duh, of course not - that's Sun Java.

This is the man page for the openjdk console:...

Re: Geany - stuck in Overwrite Mode

    Ah,
Well, have discovered that closing Geany and re-starting puts me back in INS mode. I have no idea how I got into OVR mode ... will be glad to find out.

Are you saying both the backups at dropbox and the backups on the hard drive are both corrupted? You can't fall back to one or the other?
