    [kubuntu] Re: Choppy font problem.

This issue was solved by creating a file named xorg.conf, with the following pasted into it and saved to desktop or wherever:

    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel"
    Driver "intel"
    Option...

[ubuntu] Re: Using Proxy Services for Privacy

That's good news, I'll email them to see for sure. They actually address the multiple device/router thing in the FAQ's that I mentioned earlier as well. TorGuard didn't if I remember right.

[ubuntu] Re: Using Proxy Services for Privacy

I've heard of them as well and that reduction in speed is certainly acceptable to someone like me that doesn't need enormous bandwidth. I wonder though if the fact that they operate out of Europe...

[ubuntu] Re: Using Proxy Services for Privacy

Thanks for the comment, I didn't know they offered a free trial. I'm definitely leaning towards them over others but I'm still confused on how it all works. Like whether or not I can use it on...

[ubuntu] Using Proxy Services for Privacy

Like many of you I suppose, over the years I've slowly adopted better security and anonymity practices such as using a GNU OS, Firefox, script blockers, HTTPS extension, full disk encryption and so...
  6. [lubuntu] Re: Window crashes when entering encryption passphrase.

Booted up this morning and tried it again, still closes on the 7th passphrase character.

    Anyone have any idea?
  7. [lubuntu] Window crashes when entering encryption passphrase.

I wish to format and encrypt a second internal hard disk on my desktop. Under Preferences>Disks, I select the drive, choose "format" under the settings, along with "Encrypted, compatible with Linux...
  8. [lubuntu] Re: Accidently formatted drive, rec. a way to view disk.

Yeah, it looks like it's not worth the trouble. The Linux stuff raja.genupula posted doesn't seem to work (thanks for posting it though). Thankfully I only used it for one program and a game, one of...
  9. [lubuntu] Accidently formatted drive, rec. a way to view disk.

I installed Lubuntu on a really old laptop. I liked the simplicity so much that I decided I wanted to use it on my dual boot desktop (Mint/XP). I backed up all the important stuff from Mint on...

I'll write something up later and cross post them on Mint also to see if anyone has a clue.

    [kubuntu] Re: Choppy font problem.

The kernals mentioned on are the problem desktop.

Resolution is 1920x1020 or thereabouts. I did try lowering it before.

    Kubuntu: 3.2.0-30-Generic
    Mint: 3.2.0-23-Generic

I just ran the Mint CD on an old laptop and it doesn't have the font problem.

    [kubuntu] Re: Choppy font problem.

Nope, I forgot to mention that it's Cinnamon, I might use the first Unity DVD and preview that as well to see if it doesn't matter the distribution. So far it looks that way.

    [kubuntu] Re: Choppy font problem.

I just burned a Linux Mint DVD because I was getting sick of this issue and planned to install it.

Low and behold, running the DVD (where you can preview the OS) it has the exact same problem, so...

  17. [ubuntu] Re: Switching from Windows 7 to Ubuntu, and I need a little help.

I switched to ubuntu about 4 years ago from XP and it is very much like DOS. Some people do all their installing and upgrading using the Terminal but I've found that I rarely have to use it, and when...

    [kubuntu] Re: Choppy font problem.

I ran the KDE update that was suggested to address VSync and made sure everything else was up to date. Unfortunately the problem remains. Thanks for all the help though.

    [kubuntu] Re: Choppy font problem.

I was thinking Mint but it doesn't have the full disk encryption feature which is why I updated from 10.04 in the first place. Other than Ubuntu/Kubuntu only OpenBSD has that feature that I know of....

    [kubuntu] Re: Choppy font problem.

Thanks for the suggestions. Not sure if I'll wait or simply try another distro, sometimes the problem makes it impossible to work on documents.

Can I simply delete the files in /etc/profile.d that...

    [kubuntu] Re: Choppy font problem.

I have considered doing that, but do you have any reason in particular? It will take me hours to back everything up and reinstall and I don't want to do so needlessly, especially if I have the same...
