Or maybe 12.04 will mature sufficiently.
Or maybe one of the other distros ....

I have three of my six Linux installations running 12.04.1; two others run Natty (11.04), and one runs Lucid (10.04.4). Support for Natty is supposed to end this month. I am still trying to figure...

Colorlessprism,
I had to reinstall 10.04 on my ancient Gateway desktop, and it would not shutdown cleanly, so it checked the disks each and every time I rebooted. Your fix eliminated this problem...
Thanks, mevun! I'll give it a try.
Should I keep 12.04 and replace it's g++ compiler (4.6.3-1) with an older compiler (e.g., 4.5.2-6) that will compile the code I need to compile, or should I delete my 12.04 installation, replacing it...
darkod, thanks for your valuable help. This problem is now SOLVED.
Before I read your most recent post, I tried again, using my existing home partition, and telling the installer to use that...
I tried doing a manual reinstall, keeping the existing home partition. It didn't work; I have exactly the same symptoms (Places > Home, etc. doesn't work).
Maybe I'll try copying all my home data...
Thanks, darkod, I'll give the manual install a try.
Following darkod's suggestion, I changed the last line of my fstab to
/dev/sda6 /home ext3 defaults 0 2
, rebooted, but still have the same problem.
Darkod,
I tried to switch to it later.
Don't know how to do it during installation.
Thanks for looking at this.
I just reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04: "Places" no longer works correctly, and theme updating now has some failures it used to not have.
Places > Home Folder results in the following error message at...
Your points are all well-taken, 3Miro, and yes, it does take a high-end desktop with high-end graphics cards to come anywhere close to a supercomputer. But I can't lug a desktop around, so it is...
I use Nvidia's CUDA technology on graphics processing units for general purpose programming. This is called GPGPU. It gives you a parallel processing computer. My panp5 has limited capacity, but...
You might also consider getting a USB 3.0 flash drive. Even on a USB 2.0 port it may be substantially faster, your Linux more responsive, than a USB 2.0 drive.
I use an ADATA 16GB USB 3.0 flash...
If you install the Gnome update-manager, it will appear as Preferences > Update Manager, at least in 12.04.
Do you know whether or not the switchable graphics capability on your Alienware laptop works under Ubuntu? It would be nice if it did, so that the user could choose between battery life and graphics...
Congratulations, and your information will be helpful to others, including me. Thank you.
I wonder if running "boot-repair" https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair after installation but before trying to boot the new system would help.
I wonder if it would work without WUBI. That is, use, for example, GParted to repartition the drive, creating a new empty partition. Then use the Ubuntu installer (not the WUBI installer) to install...
I had a similar problem, couldn't mount a 4GB clip+ in 11.04. I wanted to transfer audio files from a Truecrypt file on a USB flash drive to the clip+. I plugged the flash drive and the clip+ into...
lovinglinux,
Your fix worked for me.
Thanks!
Lucid booted quickly for me after I did a clean install of it on my System76 panp5, but has become slower and slower since. After selecting the boot image from the BIOS display, I seem to spend a...
Did anyone ever get anywhere with this? If so, how?
I'm trying to use paradiseo (in Lucid), and can't get make to work.
Thanks.
Has anyone tried Scotty Bones' procedure on System76 with Linux Mint 9 Isadora? If so, how did it go?
Thanks.
