i'm kinda in the same boat too... it displays the drives but i can't burn anything it always requests a disk be inserted when there already is and when i right click properties on the drive it says...

i'm completely new to ubuntu and i'm just trying to figure out how to open rar files in linux... unfortunately i can't figure out what the instructions are trying to tell me. so any step by step...
i've now tried multiple computers and multiple types of cds with no luck of burning ubuntu without some kind of error on the disc... i can usually get the cd version to run but there's always some...
thanks, well i took that test, and the ones that it suggested and that peaked my intrest were ubuntu of course and one i haven't looked too much into...

well i tried google... i found a guide where someone did a triple boot on this laptop but that really doesn't tell me if it truly does support everything on this laptop
the model i have is a HP...
is there anyway to check and see if all the features of my laptop will be compatiable with a certain distro?

as i'm sure you can tell i'm a complete n00b... will i be missing out on such items such as a photoshop type graphic editing program, and will i still be able to download torrents
