    Re: What's your Favorite IDE?

Ergh, I hope it isn't the winner!

For all the good quality software Microsoft has produced, VS2008 is definitely not one of them. I haven't had the heart to purchase the latest one since switching...

Re: Ask The Gadget Show to Review Ubuntu 10.04

No publicity is bad publicity... Although I've yet to see a professional review that comes to such a negative conclusion of Ubuntu. Most of the time, "Ubuntu is crud" comments are reserved for the...

Just sent an email to both Gadget Show and BBC Click. Hopefully the number of requests alone might persuade them to do at least a quick news story :)

    Re: The Easy Button

My Easy Button turns my computer on. I wired it to the power pins on the motherboard so I don't need to reach under my desk all the time :)

Re: New Android app: Tesla Remote Control

This should already be the case. Tesla does a check to see if the program is running and sends a launch command if it is not (you should see a "Launching player" message in the connection progress...

Re: New Android app: Tesla Remote Control

Love it. I'll look into adding the monitor-off command this weekend.

I think the option to assign arbitrary commands might be a tad too liberal (e.g. someone could take your phone and re-bind a...

    Hi abhiroopb,

Thanks for the final feedback, your help has been very valuable to the project. It will certainly be missed :)

    Re: gcj vs. javac

Correction: GCJ was made when Java was closed source.

OpenJDK is Sun's JDK with the non-GPL compatible components removed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenJDK.

    In addition: "In July 2009,...

Re: New Android app: Tesla Remote Control

It's not so much a feature as a work-around. Banshee doesn't support much in the way of remote controlling playlists, so I just query the music collection database for the rest of the album that...

    Consult the data recovery documentation:

I've found the "foremost" utility very useful for this kind of thing.

Re: HOW TO package arbitrary files for your PPA

    Excellent.

You definitely don't want to chmod the file, it is being installed as a system file so is deliberately read-only. Otherwise, if one user saves to the file it will overwrite any...

Re: HOW TO package arbitrary files for your PPA

If the program runs (without using sudo), then it sounds like the package is installing the software correctly, but not configuring it properly afterwards.

What you need to do is ensure these...

I would say the same about the iPad.

Re: HOW TO package arbitrary files for your PPA

As the error suggests, you don't have a "clean" target in your Makefile. dpkg-buildpackage needs this so that your package can delete the helloworld.py if the user decides to remove the package later...
