This is a fresh install of 12.04 Ubuntu x86_64. :) Pulse hasn't been uninstalled and should be enabled.

[ubuntu] Re: I can't stand alsa backend..

Then colour me confused, because ALSA is set as the default in Skype (installed via .deb package from Skype's website). I can tell because of the selection menu. As for Flash, something's screwy,...

[ubuntu] I can't stand alsa backend..

Would somebody mind telling me how to set PulseAudio as the default sound server for adobe flash (using the plugin from Ubuntu restricted extras, 11.2 r202) and Skype (v 4.2.0.11)? For Skype, I tried...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Why can I access windows files while I am on Ubuntu?

True but I strongly advise keeping up to date on vulnerabilities and exploits. Don't always assume the community will catch everything. Look into programs like noscript and apparmor. bodhi.zazen...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu loads and logs in but no icons or menu items

Sounds like something fudged your desktop environment.

First, back up your Unity settings through ccsm (sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager in terminal if you don't have it) by:

[ubuntu] Re: The computer goes superwarm, help me out?

I've experienced high sys load with Opera in Puppy Linux (same scenario) myself. Maybe try clearing your cache? If that doesn't work, try reinstalling flash.
In my case, switching to FF helped.

    [ubuntu] Re: network and terminal

You asked how to check your kernel version. You'd just type

uname -aTo the person above me, I believe this was posted. The result was: 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet Controller. No wireless.

    Edit:...
  11. Re: 12.04 change directory with terminal

If needed in the future, another use for 'cd' (just cd) is returning to the base directory.

    [ubuntu] Re: Sed command

The sed command replaces text in a file. i.e.:

    PoI - 3/14 @ 9:00 pm

  18. [ubuntu] Re: Some Ubuntu doubts and complains

As it stands, Ubuntu is fairly secure OOB. That's because Linux was designed with security in mind. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't implement a layered defense. The security of your system...

    Re: Emulators

Just thought I'd reply back to say that using PA server fixed my issue.
  23. Re: Major Linux Problems on the Desktop 2013

A big amen to that. I use PA server. Of course, there are latency issues but at least it lets people use more than a single channel.
