Choose the "never shown" option for notifications

never mind! i ran "fsck /dev/sda3" and after many, many presses of the y button booting is now problem-free and the data seems okay.

gilch, do you have two monitors attached to your video-card? It looks like from your xorg that you've just got one, but there's xinerama and twinview stuff in there as well...
Everything seems to be up and running - switching the connecting cables and changing xorg did the trick. This is what i've got now and it works
