I started with Ubuntu 5.10, and for me, it's gotten *better* with each release - not worse. I have upgraded PC's three times since then however:
PC Used w/ 5.10: AMD64 3500+ Single core w/ 1GB RAM...
Make sure that you have added yourself to the "vboxusers" group. The installer creates the group, but doesn't add anyone too it by default (yeah, I know that's stupid, but that's how it does it).

8.10 is working splendidly for me - I contemplated staying on 8.04 at least until 9.04, but decided against it in the end.
The "clincher" for me DKMS by default (and fully working). It is SO nice...
Some people just aren't happy if they can't complain about something...
The "Task List" is an applet that has to be added to a "virgin" panel. See the screenshot that eternalnewbee posted for you, once you click that "Add to Panel" scroll down and look for "Window List"...
If so, check out my blog-post on the GNOME Journal. We are looking for new contributors and folks to help out with organizing new editions. If you have either writing abilities, organizational skills...
We are going to need a little more information about the computer you are trying to install it on.
I think the following will get us started:
CPU Type/Speed
Amount of RAM
Type of Video Card.

What about DPI - sometimes GNOME will select a different DPI in dual-head mode than in Single Head. See what it's choosing under single head, and then see if it's different under the dual-head config.
You did say you tried changing your font settings - did you change the hinting style or the fonts themselves? If you haven't try selecting different fonts to see if that corrects the problem.
You...
Seems faster too me - boots faster too. Did a clean install though. My system is fairly high-end though (3GHz C2D, 8GB DDR2 1066) running the 64-bit variant.
There are two "GUI" ways - I'm assuming you are running Ubuntu (Meaning GNOME rather than XFCE in Xubuntu or KDE in Kubuntu - if you are running one of those - let us know).
Click "Applications"...
Sorry, but I have to ask.
Are you sure whatever you are trying to install isn't already included in the repo's?
I used nothing but AMD chips for years (I even had an AMD 80386) - just built my first Intel System (Core2) - why? Intel was faster, and I wanted the most for my $$$.
At every other point I build...
ChromeKaldra - I think you probably have an Intel Macbook Pro in which case you could use either the i386 (32-bit) or AMD64 (64-bit) versions of Ubuntu we all use on PC's.
What nixscripter was...
I wasn't even looking for a wallpaper and just clicked this post out of curiosity.
I'd seen that VMware Vid before and thought the same thing!
inigomontoya - thanks for posting the link - I dug...
Hey Merk42 -
I do see where you are coming from - but at least for me - if I think "Windows XP", the Blue "Luna" theme instantly pops into my head - if I think "Vista", Aero pops in, If I think...
Did you install Virtualbox-OSE from the Ubuntu repo's or Virtualbox-2.0 from the Sun VirtualBox Ubuntu repo?
As atomkarinca said, I'd bet it's the Kwin compositing that's causing the problem. Try disabling the Desktop Effects and see if your games play smoothly under KDE 4.
I would buy Ubuntu coffee :)
I really don't care - if I really don't like it, I can always change it.
I like "Human" - it makes Ubuntu look like...well Ubuntu! I personally use the "Human-Clearlooks" theme - small, but subtle...
Just make sure when you re-install you create a seperate /home partition so you won't lose your data next time you need to reload, or if you want to do a fresh install of a future release w/o...
Be sure to check out Cream - basically Cream makes gVim a little more "friendly" by using standard commands rather than VI specific commands.
Worth a look IMHO - I like it a lot.
Hi Syxbit,
They all have their advantages and dis-advantages. It's best to try a few and stick with one that you like (especially important once you get some machines built).
I'll try to lay out...
hmmm - that's odd - it had to have been something else wrong and not the lack of X - my VMware server here at home is still running Dapper (reminds me I need to get around to upgrading it)...
