  1. [ubuntu] Re: evince prints PDF files extremely slow (or not at all)

There was a posting about regressions for CUPS and postscript printing on the mailing list recently.

[ubuntu] Re: Disabling system beep trouble

Great! I wonder why the volume/mute settings don't get restored though, that shouldn't happen. You may still want to open a bug for that on launchpad.

Here is a better readable version of...

[ubuntu] Re: Disabling system beep trouble

Well, I've found I could do without that shutdown beep too. And true, xset or the checkbox in sound properties cannot disable this specific beep, because the "shutdown" command actually asks every...

[ubuntu] Re: Disabling system beep trouble

brandon, this could be worth a try. The alsa mixer settings like volume levels and switches are stored in /var/lib/alsa/asound.state. For whatever reason this filed may be invalid or not...

    [ubuntu] Re: git trouble

Adding --local seems to have worked for some with similar problems, like
    git clone --local --no-hardlinks git://anongit.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/drm

Didn't help me though, still the same...

[ubuntu] Re: Disabling system beep trouble

If I remember correctly he just added the line to System->Preferences->Startup Applications. I guess ~/.profile (gedit ~/.profile) would work too though.
wpshooter could be right with the checkbox....

    [ubuntu] git trouble

Git on my Jaunty install used to just work, but for some time I haven't been able to clone anything. There is always a "fatal: index-pack failed" but no hint of what actually went wrong. It even...
  10. Re: New project Grdc (GTK+/Gnome Remote Desktop Client) - will it compiles in Ubuntu?

Vic, that tiny patch below reduces bandwith for the lowest quality setting another little bit. Please have a look.
I've just seen the new Grdc 0.3.1 and the window gets now restored when switching...
  11. Re: New project Grdc (GTK+/Gnome Remote Desktop Client) - will it compiles in Ubuntu?

I'm not sure either. The Gnome HIG allow for that though. E.g. The GIMP -> GIMP Image Editor, which is btw. kinda redundant too. I appreciate what gnome is trying to do with things like "Movie...
  12. Re: New project Grdc (GTK+/Gnome Remote Desktop Client) - will it compiles in Ubuntu?

Very Cool, I have 0.3.0 running and I'm still amazed how fast it is. You can almost watch video with it over LAN.

Worked, thank you. I've found that the profiles in ~/.grdc can be renamed too to...

    Re: Initial PPA version number?

Thank you, that helped clearing some up other questions I had. I'm still unsure about the ubuntu specific suffixes though. I guess I'll keep it simple and pick the myapp_x.y variant for now.

    Initial PPA version number?

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a PPA for a little pet project of mine. Now I'm somewhat confused about the version string to use. I've looked through PPAQuickStart and PackagingGuide but I'm still not...
  15. Re: New project Grdc (GTK+/Gnome Remote Desktop Client) - will it compiles in Ubuntu?

This is really nice. I've tried it on 9.04 Jaunty Alpha2, Gnome 2.25.3 and it works well.

For the applet I've had to create the link from the readme and kill the panel, x-restart is not...

[all variants] Webcam motion detection with GStreamer

Hi, has anybody heard of a motion detection plugin for gstreamer?
I know of "motion" but that's a bit inflexible and doesn't work so well with my camera, whereas gstreamer does.

    I'm thinking of a...
  18. [ubuntu] Re: [SOLVED] How to Create a Menu Item to run Terminal as Root

I believe i've added an open-in-root-terminal manually to the nautilus scripts. But that was long ago.
Nowadays I just sudo apt-get install nautilus-open-terminal and then sudo from there.
  19. [ubuntu] Re: How to Create a Menu Item to run Terminal as Root

There should already be a hidden entry "Root Terminal" in Applications->System Tools. Just unhide it with System->Preferences->Main Menu (alacarte).

You can actually use "sudo su" too if you...
