  1. Re: What Vorbis settings do you use? or The good and bad of Vorbis.

Just throwing in some arguments for closure...

    - The Vorbis format allows gapless playback without hassle (contra MP3)
    - The Vorbis tagging (called vorbis comments) is very clean (contra ID3...

Re: bug, dapper, and fixed as wontfix

Seeing that the fix involved a new version of OpenOffice, I can see why things like this will only go into the next release.

And as others already have mentioned, support largely means security...

Re: So I decided to try KDE out...

Oh, I'm sorry, I'm not a native-speaker, I hope you forgive me massa.
And as you didn't seem to get it, I was not apologising to you.

    Edit:
And while we are at it, spreading FUD about open...

Poll: Re: Linux sucks for most consumers

    Except that it was:

Again, arguing about how good pre-alpha software runs on them is absolutely irrelevant.

    Again, there is no...

Re: So I decided to try KDE out...

What's the norm supposed to be? Your uninformed FUD?

    Does it?
What exactly does and how exactly does it?
Or do you think spewing FUD like KDE is the klutter is something even remotely...

Re: So I decided to try KDE out...

Wrong, dumb and insulting to the guys putting a lot of work into providing the great kde bindings.

In a way, but a lot less powerful.

This has nothing to do with qt or gtk. You can write...

Re: So I decided to try KDE out...

This doesn't seem to be the problem here.
If I understand the OP correctly, he's using kde apps in other DEs.
If you do that, kdeinit has to be loaded when you start a kde app. As this almost...

Poll: Re: Linux sucks for most consumers

    Sorry, but this doesn't compute.
First off, your argument is inconsistent.
You started by arguing that linux sucks for most consumers because you were worried that you couldn't get pre-alpha...

    Re: Good journalism gone bad

Hm, could you be a bit more precise here. I didn't get the impression that he doesn't know what he's talking about, on the contrary.

Which is a shame. As you now missed a whole article that points out ways open source is trying to overcome the problems mentioned and pointing out how what you quoted is a wrong perception.

Re: Bill Gates mocks MIT's $100 laptop project

You are not forced to use the crank. If power is available (like in the coffee shop you mention), just plug it in. The crank is for situations where you need to recharge the battery and no power is...

Re: Bill Gates mocks MIT's $100 laptop project

All countries that want to are eligible for this project. There's no restriction planed afaik.
And that thing on the side is probably the crank which you can use to get power in areas where reliable...

  16. Re: French plan would open iTunes to other devices

Huh? A democratically elected parliament should not be allowed to pass a law that makes it legal to convert digital content into an other format?
Why should that be the case?

Re: Amazing Gnome Amarok equivalent: Listen

Yes, people, you are all misled by visions inflicted by the Itunes disease. Use Quod Libet more. It's not for everyone it seems but it needs more (well intentioned) support.

    BTW, now with MP4...
  18. Re: These are the kind of Ubuntu headlines you like to see

    Yes and nobody disputet that.

Slight correction. If this wasn't a vulnerability.

Anyway, how does that make your claim that "If somebody gets the log file this becomes a remote exploit."...
  19. Re: These are the kind of Ubuntu headlines you like to see

No, the exploit is getting the file and hence the password in the first place. Once you have it, you already exploited the vulnerability, but you don't have an exploit, but a password.

    Sorry, no...
  20. Re: These are the kind of Ubuntu headlines you like to see

It does, for all the people not running ssh for example.

And having the root password is not an exploit anyway, as the exploit is getting the root passward in the first place, so saying that...
  21. Re: These are the kind of Ubuntu headlines you like to see

Oh come on, what are you trying to tell us?
That if someone gets the root password in plain text, it's a serious issue?
    Nobody disputed that.

Note though that you still need some way to log into...
  22. Re: These are the kind of Ubuntu headlines you like to see

Your original post to with I reacted was arguing that something is a remote exploit, if the following were the case: "If somebody gets a user ssh account they can now get root.".

    I...
  23. Re: These are the kind of Ubuntu headlines you like to see

  24. Re: These are the kind of Ubuntu headlines you like to see

But an other vulnerability that enables them to get the log. ;)
  25. Re: These are the kind of Ubuntu headlines you like to see

ROFL at this being a bugmenot account...

If somebody gets the log they get root. No account needed.
