[ubuntu] Re: Asus Zenbook Prime UX21A issues

I have issues with the new kernel too. Mine goes past BIOS and shows grub, though, so I was able to select an old kernel and boot. Could however somehow be related to the fact that the crappy SSD...

Re: maximized window no close button

I have the same thing, no close button on the window list. I'm sure it's just a preference somewhere, but i can't find it. I created a new user account on this computer and that does have the close...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Upgraded to Jaunty: now inPHPmyadmin, can't log in as root (but I can in other GU

this post saved my bacon, in case you people are still wondering how to fix it.

It seems like phpmyadmin REQUIRES a password, so you just set one, no matter how easy.

Can anyone tell me if compiz and video accelleration work properly with the FOSS drivers? I don't care about 3D games on this box (this is a work box), but decent compiz is really something I need...

    Re: Microsoft's Silverlight

I agree with you on that. The only thing <video> had going for it was the free codec thing, but some companies (Apple, and I believe Nokia too) just couldn't live with that for whatever reason....

    Re: Microsoft's Silverlight

Actually, the javaFX demos work for me on intrepid, and i don't think i needed to install anything special besides java for that.

The thing is that it sucks more than flash from an user experience...

    Re: apt-zeroconf by default

apt-zeroconf will make the changes automatically when you install it, so no need to change the sources.list file. Just make sure you reboot after you install it to make sure apt-zeroconf is started...

I just found out about apt-zeroconf after reading about apt-p2p and thinking about how it would rock to have something that for my LAN without having to set up a dedicated server. I just tested it on...

[ubuntu] Re: dpkg configure failed after cups update

I just reinstalled everything to solve the problem (which was relatively painless as my home dir is a seperate partition). I realize this isn't a proper solution, but it worked for me ;).

I just have the same issue (partly my fault for running apt-get over ssh without using screen). Did you ever solve this without doing a full reinstall?

Sound stopped working on my Dell mini 9 running Jaunty about 2 weeks ago too. I didn't care to report it because I'm going to reinstall Jaunty to be able to use ext4 anyway. I think it broke around...

Well, basically your computer wouldn't boot any more, and as a worst case scenario you'd need to physically replace the BIOS chip.

[other] Re: how to change computers manufacturer logo

That logo is in the BIOS, so the only thing you could do is reflash the BIOS with a new image that doesn't contain the logo. AFAIK nobody really does this.
