    use synaptic and search for xorg dev, you have the correct general idea but it is a different package name I believe, you can also search with apt-get if you like

    you can install programs on the livecd through synaptic, I would say use xmame as the emulator

    @Derekrocks14: you need 3d acceleration to run beryl/compiz so no unless you have accelrated graphics you can not...

    it limits the number of processes to 300, so therefore it will prevent a forkbomb from starting any processes past 300, getting one is up to you ;p
