    Which UUID is that? You can check UUIDs with
    sudo blkid for example.

    [ubuntu] Re: Thunderbird can't delete emails

    I had to close TB and leave it closed for a while. I guess indexing continues in the background even if the main window is closed. This along with email move/delete not being atomic really need to be...

    [ubuntu] Thunderbird can't delete emails

    I have two emails in my Inbox marked as new. I cannot delete them, move them, or mark them as read.

    Attempting to delete them fails with the message

    Unable to delete messages in folder...
  5. Re: What's a good age to switch to Linux at?

    Yes. You'll learn quickly if you commit to it, honestly. I never thought I'd be able to use the command line, but I became comfortable, even there, after about 6 months.

    Intel graphics sucked for...

    [ubuntu] Re: Bad Indicator-applet experience

    I've filed bugs for:

    * Transmission: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transmission/+bug/576762
    * Rhythmbox: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/576765
    * Emesene:...

    [ubuntu] Re: 10.4 no volume control applet

    That's not strictly true, actually.

    Not all elements of polish were messed up, and a lot of this isn't clearly a bug, nor even suboptimal. There are arguments to be made for this or that -...

    [ubuntu] Re: 10.4 no volume control applet

    Sorry, I can't agree with you here. While there are clearly areas of improvement, that doesn't make Lucid a failure. I think the fact that the fixmes are issues of "polish" demonstrates that the...

    [ubuntu] Re: Bad Indicator-applet experience

    Yes, I can't reproduce this behaviour on both Rhythmbox and Transmission - and I too consider it a major usability regression. Now: Does anyone know if this has been reported to Launchpad?

    [ubuntu] Re: Bad Indicator-applet experience

    I only had that behaviour while the emesene version from the PPA was installed. I downgraded to the lucid version, and now show/hide works as normal. Can you check what version you have installed?

    [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade and Drives won't mount

    You can use the "auto" option for that.

    You can mount them by adding 'sudo' to the beginning of the command. Sudo is a program that lets you run a command as the root user -- run the command...

    [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade and Drives won't mount

    Do you want these to be automatically mounted when you boot? Or maybe you just want to allow unprivileged users to mount/unmount them on command?

    I believe both of these can be accomplished by...

    [ubuntu] Re: 10.4 no volume control applet

    On the contrary, it is an excellent idea. However, implementation isn't perfect.

    It is a good idea to have visual and functional consistency in the system tray/notification area. However, a more...

    [ubuntu] Re: 10.4 no volume control applet

    Actually, the issue is worse: indicator-messages integrates only with Evolution. It doesn't even respect your choice of default email client. If it did that, I'd be perfectly happy to have that email...

    [ubuntu] Re: 10.4 no volume control applet

    To remove the email icon but leave the volume (and I guess other indicators appear as well, like battery if applicable):

    sudo apt-get purge indicator-messages

    AFAICT, the icon on that isn't configurable. Actually, it isn't as nice generally.
