As far as battery life goes, I have not performed any testing between winXP and Ubuntu, but just by observing, I'd say my battery life is alot longer with Ubuntu.
Installing Ubuntu (Intrepid Ibex)...
Would aircrack be a suitable alternative for you? I don't know if you need a gui app or not. I've only barely messed with it, but seems it should do the trick (and then some).
Well it's working once again.
Last night I wiped the drive and re-installed Ubuntu. Unfortunately that did not fix it. Not sure if the WiFi had just died and that my efforts would be eternally...
Checked and double-checked.
I read elsewhere that someone else had lost their wireless connectivity after using Wireshark as ROOT. It warns you of possible troubles with doing that, and I had no...
yep, that was my first choice. Interesting thing about that button as well is that when Windows was on there, the button worked, but with Ubuntu the button does NOTHING. However the little blue...
My wireless on my laptop just suddenly stopped working yesterday. The only thing I remember that has changed on my PC is that I installed WireShark, but I can't imagine that hosing me up like this....
Tried that. Same results.
I've recently installed Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex on my laptop. Everything is good, except for the fact when I shutdown, it just logs me off. If I issue sudo shutdown -H in the terminal, it appears as...
Thanks for posting that Metaljaz. I too have a HP ze4900 and installed Ubuntu 3 times just to go back to Windows because I could not get the wireless networking going.
Upon finding this thread,...
Without documentation, it's hard to say for sure, but your guess is the most likely one. MOST do default to infinite if set at zero. Good luck.
Just looks like BitTorrent is working and someone from Morrocco is getting something from your via BitTorrent.
Okay, wow. Now this is getting to be quite the dilemna here. What I see is that it appears it's connecting on Demand. So basically, if you don't use the net for some period of time, it'll log you...
Hmmm, not familiar with that option. Must not be in Hardy Heron, or I'm missing an update.
No matter. That may be needed if you're going straight from their modem to your PC. If their modem...
Okay, this is my second attempt at installing Ubuntu on my Desktop.
I have installed it on an older machine and it's been working on that for about a year now without any problems aside from what...
Are you talking about your PC or XBOX?
If PC, are you talking abour the GUI or /etc/network/interfaces?
You shouldn't need static IPs for your devices. By default the router should be providing them for you via DHCP.
Then it does sound as though it is likely good physically.
Then I guess we're back to the router. Did anything change a month ago? I've seen these (not this particular brand/model) just kinda...
Of course it looks good on their end. That's pretty standard. Have they tested it from your end though?
When they test from the office, there's only so much they can test. i.e. resistance, stray...
Ohhh. So is that provided by your ISP?
Mmmmmmmm, well that puts a kink in the troubleshooting. Most of ours are a dumb DSL modem which most people then attach their own router to.
I would...
Could you post your /etc/network/interfaces here?
You win!! I was checking my /etc/network/interfaces configuration for my gateway and it was there as it should be, so I was confused.
I tried the route-n and it showed 0.0.0.0 as my gateway.
...
You should go ethernet from the DSL modem to the PC as opposed to modem to router.
wall jack <==> DSL modem <==> computer
Yeah, bypass the router and connect your PC directly to your broadband. See if the problem happens then. If not, the router (or settings) are clearly the culprit.
If the problem persists, then...
My ubuntu machine was working perfectly fine. Then something happened yesterday ( i can't recall any changes made ).
All of a sudden it will talk to any and all device in its own network...
