Things haven't improved using nomodeset. It seems like there are a few threads trying to find a solution, so let's hope there is one soon.

I have added nomodeset to grub2 and will see how it goes. So far so good.
I have experienced the same thing in the last few weeks. Sorry, no answers yet.
Another easier option is to use the caelinux version 4.1.4 which includes aster for FEA. It doesn't look as nice as version 5.1.1.

Ethernet cable was unplugged and I was doing it over wifi. Things working much more smoothly now. Would work even more smoothly with 100/1000 NIC.
