10C is too cold for us down here. Yes I live near the equator.
Thank you Toz!
Yes USB 3.0 cables are blue instead of white/black in the inside. It is to make it easy to differentiate the USB 3.0 ports from the USB 2.0 ports. See this for more information.
If you have any other computer connected to the Internet, create an ad-hoc connection and download the patch on line.
Does it work well with 1080p hd videos?
I have the same graphics card and I'm pretty happy with it. Installing the proprietary driver on 9.10 almost trashed my desktop and I always experienced tearing when watching 720p movies! But the...
The proprietary driver for ATi Radeon hd 4570 is trash, PERIOD! The only thing that fixed the tearing was updating to Lucid, the open source driver is way better than the proprietary driver on Lucid.
What version of Ubuntu are you using?
And post type this in the terminal and paste the results
No you shouldn't go back to Ubuntu 9.10. I had similar problem, my Huwaei EC1261 worked in Ubuntu 9.10 but didn't work on Ubuntu 10.04. Installing usb-modswitch from synaptic fixed the problem and...
I had the exact problem, I was able to use my Huawei modem without any problem in Karmic but it didn't work on Lucid. This is how to solve it, install usb-modswitch from synaptic and it should work...
LOL, it went from 10mbs to 30kbps for me, I could easily settle with 5mbps now but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon.
grandr solved my problem, too bad it's not working for you. Anyways, you could give the proprietary drivers a try(you can download them from the AMD website) and the Catalyst Control panel let's you...
Ya I'm using the device in Ubuntu Lucid, but I had to install usbmodswitch from Synaptic like the above posters said. The funny thing is, it was working without installing anything on Ubuntu 9.10....
Thanks Hank, I guess the custom kernel is the only way to go since I'm using a laptop and I don't think I can replace my network card(Damn you SiS!!!). By the way, does Ubuntu update the kernel...
Are you using Lucid? Ubuntu didn't detect my USB devices and installing usb-modswitch (not sure about the spelling) from synaptic fixed the problem.
Thanks, I will give it a try and post my results.
Edit: I still have slow file sharing speed but I can share at about 3mbps on Wireless connection. Sharing files over wired connection is...
I guess I have to lock it down then, please anyone this will be my last bump, I really really really need this!
Have you tried tweaking the /etc/samba/smb.conf file? Type
sudo gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf and then, uncomment(remove the #) from
#socket options = TCP_NODELAY...
I have tried connecting it with a mac and I still can't copy files to my computer at acceptable speed but it's fine the other way round. Any one with the same issue, please I really really...
I don't recommend ordering the live cds if you have fast Internet connection, order the live cd if you have a crappy connection and you can't find any decent connection to use to download the live cd.
Why would you run firefox from terminal?
My friend gave me his laptop to install Ubuntu for him, I had the exact problem and and his laptop was also Acer Aspire 5710, plugging a mouse would fix the problem but it's still weird.
Doing a fresh install is always better. Try backing up your data from live CD/pendrive and do a fresh install of Lucid.
