Still exploring DE's with good global menus.

This one is KDE 4.8.4 on MacBook 5.1. Color theme is Caledonia with Fenza icons, both from KDE-look.org.

    The dock is AWN.

[ubuntu] Re: Should I be worried?

    Kopkins,

This is a widely known issue among Macbook users. There's even a couple of threads on it on these forums.

To cut to the chase, you should do the following:

    1.
    sudo apt-get...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Seduced By Fedora; Want Stock Gnome Shell On 12.04

Yes, there are some noticeable caveats with the extensions. You'll need to watch those carefully, especially during upgrades, though problems will be rare during updates.

    The Shell itself won't...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on Macbook 5,1 late 2008?

Got KDE 4.8 working out with trackpad fully functional. All necessary settings are there.

Glad to be back on KDE too.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on Macbook 5,1 late 2008?

I just got 12.04 dual booting on my Macbook 5.1., today. The trackpad is a mess. Without proper trackpad function, you have rudimentary, or no, window management. As I type this, I am struggling to...

    Oh, yeah, there it is!

Been a while since I used a 19-inch monitor. 15-inch widescreen laptop here. The launcher seems just sprawling on it.

    Re: Unity June screenshots

    vindsl,

    Intriguing desktop. I'm wondering:

Where's the app name and menu that's usually in the top right corner? Camouflaged?

Any special configuration for that launcher? Or just a large...

First shot: GNOME Classic with OS X "Lake Isles" background, Zukitwo Dark GTK and window themes, FaenzaWolfe icons. AWN as dock.

2nd shot: same, Chromium in front.
  18. [ubuntu] Re: Do I really need to reinstall ALL these drivers?

Five years ago, you would have had to install half of them, and by command line (as in compile). But now, most linuxes are plug n play. You'll still find some holes though, notably in printer...
