;) Now there's 3 years since then. What would you like to zoom in and out?
New update available
you could turn off metacity compositing and install xcompmgr-dana. (makes all menus transparent)
in your theme's folder somewhere you will find panel.png (or something similar). Rotate it 90° left or right.
you should get used to the clock. MeMenu(?) could have an option for vertikal panels
Oh sorry I thought it could only be used in some historical research (although I don't know the average here)
right click, remove from panel ?
as you know FORTRAN you seem to be older than the average here. You should have a look at C some time.
with wmctrl you could read the position of the windows on your desktop. store them all in an array. Read again and compare. I don't know any short way. I tried nearly the same with bash and started...
I don't use compiz, but i guess you'll have to change some "show only windows from the actual viewpoint" option
Wrong language for your purpose.
you could try devilspie. If I remember right the config file is:
{undecorate}
with openbox you can have all of this (I think)

I wrote a version of this script in C. It is faster with extra functionality (but maybe a bit harder to customize). However you're idea is very interesting and I'll implement this...
Cool

I'm quite sure that it's metacity. I'm running openbox with gnome-panel and I don't have ALT+F2
Hope this works in Karmic the same way and you meant this:
notify-send -i terminal Text1 "Text2"
wmctrl -a :ACTIVE:
should work (if wmctrl installed
you could change the window title of your EXISTING Firefox window, so it wont be affected when (if
(is (window_name) "Firefox")
maybe you could try to change the window title of your firefox window with eg wmctrl
you should post your conkyrc . You should not have to start conky this way. What is your problem with conky?
It would be possible with a script and wmctrl (but not with compiz, maybe compiz can do that itself).
This script creates a symlink named Desktop to a symlink in ~/.Desktops to any directory you want (Default ~/.Desktops/Original Desktop but you can add more)
#!/usr/bin/env python
import os...
1. This could be done with some scripting. It wont be a real solution, it just would switch the desktop and the directory at the same time. I have two little python scripts to start with.
2. Some...
