I'm on Ubuntu 13.10, and have an HP ScanJet 4300C. It's powered on, and hooked up to the computer with the standard printer/scanner-USB cable. Long story short, Simple Scan seems to recognize it, but...

    Kernel Panic on first boot?

Just upgraded my computer from 32-bit Ubuntu 13.10 (it's been upgraded a few times) to 64-bit. Boot disk worked great. Installation went pretty smoothly, other than a brief warning right at the end...

[ubuntu] 13.04 Java Plugin not working

I was trying to use a java app on my browser, and it just redirected to java.com's install page, so I figured I don't have the plugin installed. So I went to Software Center, installed the IcedTea...

  7. Re: Fresh install of 13.04, locks up after login

Just returning to confirm that this fixed my problem in 13.04 as well. Actually, after I did this, I experienced a watermark that said "AMD Unsupported Hardware", but a quick google search fixed that...
  8. Re: Fresh install of 13.04, locks up after login

Definitely try the proprietary nvidia driver then. Look up command line instructions. To enter them, go to tty1 by pressing Ctrl+alt+1.
  9. Re: Fresh install of 13.04, locks up after login

I just realized I installed the wrong proprietary driver so it was still using the open source one. Thought I had nvidia. Turns out its ati. Installed the right driver on 12.10 and now it works so...
  10. Fresh install of 13.04, locks up after login

I just did a completely fresh install of 13.04 64bit (actually did it a second time in case it was just a fluke the first time). Everything went smooth. It boots up to a login screen, so I give my...

[SOLVED] Re: Lenovo T520 Webcam not working

Ok, that's promising. That's kind of what I figured too.

Then it's just a matter of figuring out why it doesn't work for me.

Like I said above, even Cheese doesn't give me any video, so...

  19. [SOLVED] Re: Disable on-screen keyboard that got stuck in LightDM?

Thank you very much. That was surprisingly easy - just kinda hidden because I couldn't figure out how to get to onboard settings on my own. Oh well. Solved now.

  22. [SOLVED] Re: 11.10 fresh install gets stuck at Checking Battery State

I did put [Solved] in the Title. Dunno if there's another way to mark as solved. But yeah, I noticed a lot of people were having this issue, and this does seem like a solid fix for it.

  24. [SOLVED] Re: 11.10 fresh install gets stuck at Checking Battery State

I don't want to use the prior GPU. As I said, it's integrated chipset GPU (hence the 200), and it overheats. That's part of the reason I installed the 8500, which I want to use by itself.

    I...
