Just rename your .wine folder, run Configure Wine and then copy the ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam folder to the new folder.
I have tried it, but I experienced memory leaks with latest version from the repos. Too bad, AptonCD is a great tool.
Are all mp3 files affected by that issue?
Sorry, try making copies of the affected files and convert those copies with Sound Converter...
UPDATE:Try uninstalling and removing every trace of mocp and reinstalling.
Please try the version from the repositories. It seems the compiled version doesn't have mp3 support.
Backup your whole user folder. That will save all Wine configuration and programs. For everything else use the commands in the second post.

I use Ubuntu Studio but I stick to the generic kernel. The rt kernel does the same in my machine, but it does it when I shut down. You won't need the rt kernel unless working in audio production.
